Since its inception in 1999, The Icelandic Film and Television Academy has annually held the Icelandic film and television awards, referred to as the Edda awards. IKSA also runs the Land & synir (Land and Sons) website and twice a year publishes a magazine by the same name (www.logs.is - Icelandic only). IKSA enjoys the support of The Icelandic Film Centre and the three main television stations in Iceland. The chairman of the Academy’s board is Hilmar Sigurdsson.

The Icelandic Filmmakers Association was founded in 1966. Its objective is to promote the interests of filmmakers and advance the fields of film and television in Iceland. The association has members on the boards of MEDIA DESK ICELAND, The Collecting Society of Iceland, The Icelandic Film and Television Academy and The Film Board of Iceland. SIK - The Association of Icelandic Film Producers - is an association of Icelandic film production companies that produce varied forms of both television and film content. The association is represented on the boards of MEDIA DESK ICELAND, The Collecting Society of Iceland, The Icelandic Film and Television Academy, and The Film Board of Iceland. It is a member of F.I.A.P.F, C.I.C.C.E. and ACCIOA.

The Icelandic Dramatists´ Union is an independent organization of playwrights and scriptwriters in Iceland. Its main purpose is the protection of the artistic, moral and pecuniary rights of its members, and the promotion of contemporary Icelandic playwrighting. MEDIA Desk Iceland gives out information about the extensive services of the MEDIA plus programme and other programmes it participates in, along with assisting applicants with the necessary procedures. MEDIA DESK ICELAND is an autonomous agency funded jointly by the EU´s MEDIA plus programme, The Icelandic Film Centre and The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture in Iceland. SMAIS (The Association of film rights-holder in Iceland) was founded in 1992 and serves as a joint entity for theatrical film, video, DVD, television content and video games distributors in Iceland. SMAIS actively functions as an interested party in many areas of the entertainment industry; among other things it lobbies for laws and regulations concerning copyright, fights state controlled censorship, and collaborates with local members on issues of interest. SMAIS also generates all box office figures for films in theaters in Iceland (weekly top 20 box office list can be found here here)

WIFT is an international organization that was founded in Los Angeles in the 1960s. One of its main objectives is to increase diversification in the visual media through supporting the participation of women in all sectors of the film and television industries.

WIFT is now an active organization in over 40 countries and counts over 10,000 members worldwide. KIKS, the Icelandic branch of WIFT, was founded in September 2006. The KIKS website can be found here (Icelandic only)
