Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir awarded Best Director at Kolkata Film Festival

Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir, the director of The Swan, was awarded best director by the jury of the Kolkata International Film Festival 2017. The festival took place in Kolkata, India, November 10-17.

The Swanwhich is writer/director Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir‘s debut feature, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. Since its world premiere it has been on an impressive festival run screening in over 10 festivals in a period of one month. Upcoming festivals include screenings at Black Nights Film Festival, Tallinn as well as competing in the International Critic's Week Competition for Feature and Documentary Films at Cairo Film Festival. 

In The Swan, a wayward nine-year-old girl is sent to the countryside one summer to help out on a farm and mature, but she soon finds herself deeply entangled in a drama she can hardly grasp.

The Swan is written and directed by Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir. It is produced by Birgitta Björnsdóttir and Hlín Jóhannesdóttir for Vintage Pictures and coproduced by German production company Junafilm and Estonian production company Kopli Kinokompanii.
