Anna, a short film by Icelandic director Runar Runarsson, will participate in the Director‘s Fortnight programme at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The film is Runarsson‘s graduation project from the Danish National Film School and will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Icelandic Film Centre will maintain a presence at the Nordic Countries‘ information stand at the festival. Further, the Centre will take part in a co-production meeting hosted by the CRC (Capital Regions for Cinema) network which is comprised of four regions that are prolific in the field of co-production: Berlin-Brandenburg, Madrid-Madrid, Roma-Lazio og Paris-Ile-de-France. Every year CRC invites different European regions to participate in co-production meetings and this year the network extended an invitation to the Nordic countries. Each nation was asked to bring to the meeting two projects with co-production possibilities in mind. The Icelandic Film Centre will present the feature films Silence of the Grave, directed by Baltasar Kormakur, and Rokland, directed by Marteinn Thorisson.

European Film Promotion, of which the Icelandic Film Centre is a member, hosts the tenth annual Producers on the Move presentation at the Cannes Film Festival. Participating on Iceland‘s behalf is Gudrun Edda Thorhannesdottir who was one of the producers of the film Country Wedding, directed by Valdis Oskarsdottir and is currently one of the producers working on Mamma Gogo, the new film from director Fridrik Thor Fridriksson.

Reykjavik-Rotterdam, a thriller directed by Oskar Jonasson, will be shown at a market screening at Cannes arranged by The Icelandic Film Centre and NonStop Sales. Further, five Icelandic short films, The Button directed by Sigurbjorn Bui Baldvinsson, Waste directed by Bragi Thor Hinriksson, Committed directed by Isold Uggadottir, Hotel Earth directed by Baldvin Z and The Nail directed by Benedikt Erlingsson, will feature in the Short Film Corner short film market.

Icelandic musician Bardi Johannsson, along with his band Bang Gand, will perform in the Cinéma de la Plage concert series that runs alongside the Cannes Film Festival and has as its focus this year film soundtracks from the Nordic countries. Bardi Johansson‘s music has been associated with cinema since the year 2000 when he wrote the music for the Icelandic film Fiasko (directed by Ragnar Bragason). Since then Bardi has composed a soundtrack for the Swedish/Danish film Haxan(Benjamin Christensen, 1922), co-directed the short film Red Death (Pompidou Museum, Paris, 2004) and in 2008 won the Edda Award for the music in the film Reykjavik-Rotterdam.  Bang Gang, which was formed in 1996, has released three albums and toured extensively around the world. Bardi and Bang Gang will play at Cannes on May 21st at 8 pm.
