Reykjavik-Rotterdam up for an Oscar nomination
The Icelandic Film & Television Academy (IKSA) has submitted Reykjavik-Rotterdam as the Icelandic candidate for the Academy Award nomination as Best Foreign Language Feature, 2010.
The film is directed by Oskar Jonasson and premiered in Iceland in October 2008. The following month Reykjavik-Rotterdam received five EDDA awards, Iceland’s national film prize, including Best Director.
Reykjavik-Rotterdam is produced by Baltasar Kormakur and Agnes Johansen for Blueeyes Productions, in association with Rotterdam Films, Bavaria Pictures and Nordisk Film. It tells the story of Kristofer, played by Baltasar Kormakur, who is stuck in a dull everyday routine, working as a security guard. He got fired from the freight ship he worked on, when he was caught smuggling alcohol. Faced with money problems, he is tempted to accept the help of his friend who manages to pull some strings to get his old job back. He decides to take his chances one last time on a tour to Rotterdam.
