THREE ICELANDIC FILMS AT THE GOTHENBURG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Drama, fun, action and adventure are among the themes in three Icelandic films participating in GIFF, the Gothenburg International Film Festival, in Sweden the 27th January to the 6th of February.
The highlights of the festival are two international competitions, The Dragon Award for The Best Nordic film and The Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award, which will be awarded for the fourth time.
Either Way, a film by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson, is among eight films nominated for The Dragon Award. The prize of one million Swedish kronas is globally one of the highest in the film industry and will be presented at a ceremony on the 4th of February. Either Way competes with the Swedish films Avalon, Flicker and She Mali Snails, the Norwegian films The Orheim Company and Sons of Norway, the Finnish film Stars above and Teddy Bear from Denmark.
Volcano by the director Runar Runarsson from Iceland will be screened four times in the category of Northern lights.
The year 2012 is the Children’s Culture Year in Gothenburg and therefore GIFF will launch the Gothenburg Youth Film Festival, running from the 21st to the 23th of January, and screening Legends of Valhalla – Thor by Óskar Jónasson among others. The film will also be screened in the category of Northern Lights.
The Nordic Market at the festival is an international marketplace and a networking venue for Nordic Feature films and TV drama. During closed screenings and work in progress sessions, specially invited buyers, distributors, sales agents and festival programmers from all over the world get an opportunity to see new and up-coming films and participate in high profile seminars. Three Icelandic films in production will be introduced at The Nordic Market: Frost by Reynir Lyngdal, Rock Bottom by Börkur Gunnarsson and Solstice by Lars Emil Arnason.
There will be ongoing screenings and premieres for eleven days at The Gothenburg International Film Festival along with concerts, performances and parties.
