Stockfish honors the legacy of Eva Maria Daniels
The Stockfish Film & Industry Festival in Reykjavík, Iceland, has created an award for short films to honor the legacy of acclaimed Icelandic filmmaker and producer Eva Maria Daniels. She passed away in June after a battle with cancer. She was 43 years old.
An emerging producer or director in the short film competition will receive the award in memory of Eva and in recognition of her continued contribution to the next wave of filmmakers in Iceland. The winner will receive 1.5 million Icelandic krona to fund their next project. The award will be presented with the support of her partner, Moritz Diller, and son, Henry.
Riva Marker, Eva's longtime producing partner, will preside over the jury, consisting of Eva's colleagues. Among them are director, writer and producer, Elfar Adalsteins, producer and composer Nigel Godrich, producer Oren Moverman, publicist Jessie Cohen, director and film financier Sascha Drews, writer and film financier Will O'Connor, director Gunnar Olafsson and writer and director Borkur Sigthorsson.
"Eva's approach to film production was to listen to and support truly talented individuals," says Riva Marker. "We will never know all the beautiful stories she would have brought to the audience, but we are proud to award talented individuals, in her name, with recognition and encouragement."
Eva worked as an advisor at the Icelandic Film Centre from 2022-2023.
Stockfish Film & Industry Festival, SFIF, is a non-profit organization, founded by the professional societies of filmmakers in Iceland, with a focus on establishing meaningful connections to implement and benefit cross-border collaborations between the Icelandic and the international film industries.
The 2024 edition of the Stockfish Festival will be held from April 4th to April 14th and it will mark the festival's 10th anniversary.
