Stockfish Film Festival takes place from May 20 - 30

The Stockfish Film Festival will take place from May 20 - 30 in Bíó Paradís cinema. The festival‘s opening film is The Last Ones by Veiko Õunpuu which has been described as a Lapland western. The film was Estonia's official submission for this year's Oscars ceremony.

Two films will have their world premiere at the festival, the Icelandic documentary Apausalypse by Andri Ólafsson and Anní Ólafsdóttir, and the Slovenian film with Icelandic production Little Kingdom.

Over 20 hand-picked award-winning films from all over the world will screen at the festival and 12 Icelandic short films will compete for the Shortfish award at the festival‘s short film competition.

Every other year Physical Cinema participates with Stockfish Festival with a different kind of film program. Physical Cinema Outdoor Program was held earlier this year where screenings were held outdoors in various parts
of Reykjavík. Now we celebrate Physical Cinema Indoor Program. Physical Cinema is intended as a venue for short films, documentaries and video artwork. Selected images are considered to dance art, visual art, sound and film art. There are no rules, only a free form of expression where everything is allowed. Helena Jónsdóttir choreographer is in charge of the festival in collaboration with Stockfish Festival.

Stockfish Film Festival aims to create a platform in Reykjavík to encourage collaboration between domestic and international film communities. International award-winning directors and film professionals will be invited to speak at the festivals many conference events; celebrations, panels, Q&A sessions and master classes. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic this years masterclasses will be online.
