Sverrir Gudnason to play Mikael Blomkvist in THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER‘S WEB

Icelandic actor Sverrir Gudnason has landed one of the starring roles in the upcoming film The Girl in the Spider‘s Web, where he will portray Mikael Blomkvist of the Millenium novels by Stieg Larsson and David Lagercrantz. The film is the sequel to David Fincher‘s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, and is scheduled for release in late 2018.

Gudnason, based in Sweden, has recently been lauded with praise for his performance as Björn Borg in the biopic Borg/McEnroe, where he stars alongside Shia LaBeouf. He recently won the STARmeter Award for Breakout Star at the 2017 IMDb Awards and has won a Swedish Academy award (Guldbagge) on two occasions; in 2015 for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Blowfly Park and in 2014 for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Monica Z.

The Girl in the Spider‘s Web will be directed by Fedé Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don‘t Breathe) and written by Alvarez, Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Locke) and Jay Basu, based on David Lagercrantz‘s novel of the same name. Claire Foy (The Crown) will co-star as Lisbeth Salander.
