International awards for Icelandic films in 2021

In total, Icelandic films won 29 international awards in 2020. Below you can see a complete list of the awards.

Features:

Backyard Village (dir. Marteinn Thórsson)

Won Best Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay at Vienna Independent Film Festival (VIFF). The festival took place from November 1 - 4. 

Birta (dir. Bragi Thór Hinriksson)

 Kristín Erla Pétursdóttir won the DIAMANT award for best child actor at the Schlingel International Film Festival, which took place in Germany from October 9 - 16. 

Margrét Júlía Reynisdóttir won an award for Best Acting Performance at Kikife International Children's Film Festival. The festival took place from October 18 - 24 in Germany. 

Cop Secret (dir. Hannes Thór Halldórsson)

Won the Prize of the Friends for best feature film debut at the 63rd Nordische Filmtage Lübeck . The festival took place from November 3 - 7 in Germany. 

Lamb (dir. Valdimar Jóhannsson)

Received the Prize of Originality in the Un Certain Regard program at the 74th Cannes Film Festival. The festival took place this from July 6–17.

Won Best Feature Length Film, Citizen Kane Award for Best New Direction and Best Actress (Noomi Rapace) at SITGES - International Fantastic Film Festival

Peter Hjorth and Fredrik Nord won the European Visual Effects award at the European Film Awards. 

Documentaries:

A Song Called Hate (dir. Anna Hildur)

Won the Best Long Play Music Documentary Award at Seeyousound Music Film Festival, which took place from February 19 - 25 in Italy. 

Won the Best Nordic Documentary Award at Oslo Pix, which took place from May 31 - June 10 in a hybrid version.

Are You Icelandic? (dir. Magnea Björk Valdimarsdóttir)

Magnea Björk Valdimarsdóttir was voted Best Female Filmmaker at the October Edition of the Barcelona International Film Festival.

Best Documentary Feature Film at Istanbul Film Awards November edition.

Best Documentary Feature Film at Eastern Europe International Movie Awards November edition.

Best Feature Documentary at Auber International Film Festival October edition.

Lobster Soup (dir. Pepe Andreu and Rafael Molés)

Was awarded the CGIL Prize for the Close Up - La Sortie de l'Usine for best documentary at Bergamo Film Meeting. The festival took place from April 24 - May 2.

Raise the Bar (dir. Gudjón Ragnarsson)

Won two awards at the International Film Festival for Young Audiences, Filem'On. The festival took place from October 27 - November 6 in Belgium.

Shorts:

Aftersight (dir. Björn Rúnarsson.)

Won Best Icelandic Student Short at RIFF Reykjavik International Film Festival 2021. The festival took place from September 30 - October 10.

August Sky (dir. Jasmin Tenucci)

Received a Special Mention from the short film jury in the category Short Film Palme d'Or at the the 74th Cannes Film Festival, which took place this from July 6–17.

Dalía (dir. Brúsi Ólason)

Received a Special Jury Prize at the Euregion Film Festival which took place from March 1 - 7 in the Netherlands. 

Heartless (dir. Haukur Björgvinsson)

Won Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy at Bolton International Film Festival, October 6 - 17.

Kitchen by Measure (dir. Atli Arnarson and Sólrún Ylfa Ingimarsdóttir)

Won the Shortfish at the Stockfish Film Festival's short film competition. The festival took place from May 20 - 30.

The Last Date (dir. Ásta Sól Kristjánsdóttir)

Received the Icelandic Student Shorts Special Mention at RIFF Reykjavik International Film Festival 2021. The festival took place from September 30 - October 10.

Sealskin (dir. Ugla Hauksdóttir)

Won Best International Fiction at Leiria Film Fest. The festival took place from May 27 - 30 in Portugal.

Won Best Original Soundtrack at Dieciminuti Film Festival. The festival took place from August 3 - 7 in Italy. 

Won Best Short Film award at Wolves Independent Film Festival. The festival took place from August 27 - 29 in Lithuania.

TV series:

Blackport (dir. Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Gísli Örn Gardarsson, María Reyndal)

Won the Grand Prize in the international competition at Series Mania. The festival took place from August 26 - September 2 in Lille, France. 

Received the Jury Award of the Official Competition at Serielizados Fest, Spain, October 20 - 25.
