BASKAVÍGIN wins Best Documentary Feature at Richmond

Baskavígin: The Slaying of the Basque Whalers, the Spanish/Icelandic documentary directed by Aitor Aspe, won for Best Documentary Feature at the Richmond International Film Festival in the United States. This is the film‘s first award.

Recently, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson was nominated for an Edda Award for his original score.

The film is coproduced by Hjálmtýr Heiddal for Seylan.

Baskavígin had its world premiere in the Zinemira section at the prestigious San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain in September 2016.

Synopsis: In June 1615 Icelandic scholar Jón Gudmundsson the Learned awaits the arrival of 86 Basque whalers to the shores of northern Iceland. What he doesn't know is that their journey will be fraught with peril, and that many of them will eventually be slaughtered in one of the biggest massacres in Icelandic history.
