Director Baltasar Kormákur and RVK Studios open a new production studio in Iceland

Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur, along with RVK Studios, has formally opened up a large film studio which is the first step towards the launch of Reykjavik Studios, a full-service production facility and film village Reykjavík. Reykjavík studios will be one of the largest production studios in Scandinavia.

The studio has already been put to use with season 2 of Baltasar's Trapped shooting at the studio. Reykjavik Studios aims to attract international productions of all sizes and will be served by experienced community of Icelandic film crew members.

According to Variety, Baltasar hopes the new venture will become a haven for all sorts of the creative industries, including film, television, art, music, design and fashion, a welcoming home for entrepreneurs, start-up companies and even events. The film village will also have a residential area along with hotels and other services.
