Icelandic composer Hildur Gudnadóttir wins Emmy for CHERNOBYL

Icelandic composer Hildur Gudnadóttir received Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series for the critically-acclaimed drama Chernobyl. Gudnadóttir dedicated her win to the people of the Chernobyl region.

The HBO series chronicles the 1986 Chernobyl Nuclear Plant disaster and its aftermath. Gudnadóttir visited the nuclear power plant in Lithuania, where much of the filming took place, and made live recordings of its atmospheric sounds to capture the experience of Chernobyl.

Gudnadóttir recently scored Todd Phillip's Joker, which won the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 76th Venice International Film Festival. Gudnadóttir started creating the music just after reading the script which according to Joaquin Phoenix, the lead actor, helped set the tone and became a key motivator during the process of evolving the character in Joker.

Gudnadóttir is known for her score in the films Sicario: Day of the Soldat from 2018, Tom of Finland from 2017, the Icelandic feature The Oath from 2016 and the Icelandic TV series Trapped from 2015. Recently, Gudnadóttir was invited to become a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for her contribution to theatrical motion pictures.
