Icelandic presence in Hollywood blockbusters

Adrift, director Baltasar Kormákur‘s new feature, had its premiere in the United States on June 1, where it took third place at the box office. Adrift is Kormákur‘s 12th feature film, his previous films include 101 Reykjavík, Jar City, Contraband, The Deep, Everest and The Oath. He‘s also the creator of critically acclaimed crime drama Trapped. It‘s second season will premiere  locally this fall.

In second place at the US box office is Deadpool 2, which is edited by Elísabet Ronaldsdóttir along with Americans Craig Alpert, Michael McCusker and Dirk Westervelt. Ronaldsdóttir is an experienced editor of 20 years. Among her previous films and TV series are Jar City, Contraband, The Deep, John Wick, Trapped and Atomic Blonde.

Also worth mentioning is the Icelandic contribution to the films in first and fourth place at the US box office; Solo: A Star Wars Story and Avengers: Infinity War. Pétur Breki Bjarnason is one of the visual effects artists for first placed Solo: A Star Wars Story. In fourth placed Avengers: Infinity War, Dagbjört Ósk Gunnarsdóttir is one of the film‘s paint and rotoscopy artists and Heidrún Tinna Haraldsdóttir is one of the film‘s digital compositors.
