RIFT, CUBS and WINTER BROTHERS selected for BFI London Film Festival

Three films with Icelandic ties – the features Rift and Winter Brothers, and the short film Cubs – have all been selected for the BFI London Film Festival, which will take place October 4 – 15.

Rift, the second feature from writer/director Erlingur Óttar Thoroddsen, will screen in the festival’s Cult selection. Rift had its world premiere at the Göteborg Film Festival last winter and has been on the festival circuit since. It received an award for Artistic Vision at Outfest in Los Angeles.

Cubs, the second short film from Nanna Kristín Magnúsdóttir, will screen in the short film program Heading for That Adult Crash. Cubs has been traveling the festival circuit since premiering at the Reykjavík International Film Festival last fall, where it won Best Icelandic Short Film. It has also screened at the Göteborg Film Festival and SXSW in Austin, Texas. It won the Icelandic Academy Award for Best Short Film in 2017 and the Grand Jury Prize at the Independent Film Festival Boston.

Winter Brothers, a Danish/Icelandic coproduction from Icelandic writer/director Hlynur Pálmason, recently had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where it scooped up four awards. It also won a Special Mention at T-Mobile New Horizons in Wroclaw, Poland. It has also recently screened in the Discovery section of the Toronto International Film Festival.
