Ásthildur Kjartansdóttir's THE DEPOSIT selected for Sydney Film Festival: EUROPE! VOICES OF WOMEN IN FILM

The Icelandic writer/director Ásthildur Kjartansdóttir's first full length feature, The Deposit, has been selected for the programme "Europe! Voices of Women in Film" at the Sydney Film Festival, which will showcase the works of 10 outstanding European women directors. The festival will take place from June 5 - 16.

The Deposit  follows the journalist Gisella. When Gisella becomes bankrupt, she decides to rent out her spare bedrooms to two immigrant women. The arrangement begins well for all parties but gradually her tenants begin to threaten Gisella's control of the house, her morals, and her sanity.

The programme is cooperated between EFP (European Film Promotion) and the Sydney Film Festival to promote European cinema and the initiative is made possible with the support of Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Union and the respective EFP member organisations.
