THE SWAN and WINTER BROTHERS selected for Toronto

The Swan, writer/director Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir‘s debut feature, will have its world premiere in the Discovery section of the Toronto International Film Festival. Winter Brothers, writer/director Hlynur Pálmason‘s debut feature will also screen in the Discovery section of the festival. Winter Brothers, a Danish/Icelandic coproduction, recently had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where it scooped up four awards.

In The Swan, a wayward nine-year-old girl is sent to the countryside one summer to help out on a farm and mature, but she soon finds herself deeply entangled in a drama she can hardly grasp.

The Swan is written and directed by Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir. It is produced by Birgitta Björnsdóttir and Hlín Jóhannesdóttir for Vintage Pictures and coproduced by German production company Junafilm and Estonian production company Kopli Kinokompanii.

Winter Brothers is a brother odyssey set in a worker‘s environment during a cold winter. We follow two brothers – their routines, habits and rituals – and a violent feud that erupts between them and another family.

Winter Brothers is written and directed Hlynur Pálmason. It is produced by Danish production company Masterplan Pictures and Anton Máni Svansson for Icelandic production company Join Motion Pictures.

International sales for Winter Brothers are handled by NewEurope Film Sales (jan@neweuropefilmsales.com).
