27 Icelandic films to screen in Poland

In what is one of the most comprehensive retrospectives of Icelandic cinema to date, 27 Icelandic films will tour Poland this February and March as part of the cultural program Ultima Thule: At the End of the World. Ultima Thule is a collaboration between the Polish National Film Archive and the Reykjavik Film Academy to promote greater awareness and understanding between the film cultures of Poland and Iceland. In addition to film screenings in both Iceland and Poland, the project includes a variety of workshops, master classes and seminars in both countries. Other Icelandic partners in the project include Bíó Paradís, the Icelandic Film Centre and the Icelandic National Film Archive.

A number of Icelandic film professionals will be traveling to Poland to represent their work: among them are the directors Ragnar Bragason (Metalhead), Rúnar Rúnarsson (Sparrows, Volcano) and Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson (Undercurrent), and the actor Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (City State). In addition, the Icelandic musician Sóley is taking part in a series of related children's concerts, along with Danish musicians Efterklang and Poland's Asi Mina.

The Icelandic retrospective began in the city of Gdansk on February 12 and will continue there until February 24. From Gdansk it will travel to Poznan (February 25 – March 3) and finally to Warsaw (March 9 – 20).
