ALMA and WOLKA screened at the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund

Two new Icelandic features, Alma by Kristín Jóhannesdóttir and Wolka by the late Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson, will be screened in the Nordic Focus program at the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund between August 21 – 27. Two Icelandic projects will be presented in the Nordic Co-Production Market and five features will be screened in closed market screenings.

Alma is serving time in a psych ward for murdering her boyfriend, a crime she can't remember. But when she discovers the boyfriend's still alive, she decides to escape and kill him after all.

Alma is Kristín Jóhannesdóttir‘s third feature film. The film is produced by Gudrún Edda Thórhannesdóttir, Fridrik Thór Fridriksson and Egil Ødegård, and it stars Snæfrídur Ingvarsdóttir, Kristbjörg Kjeld, Emmanuelle Riva and Hilmir Snær Gudnason.

 Anna is released from a Polish prison after serving 15 years for homicide. Finally free, she has only one goal, but to achieve it she must break parole and the law, sacrifice everything, and head on an unforeseen journey to the remote island nation of Iceland.

Wolka was Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson‘s fourth feature. The film is an Icelandic/Polish coproduction, produced by Iceland's Sagafilm and it stars Olga Bołądź, Eryk Lubos and Anna Moskal.


Two Icelandic projects will be presented in the Nordic Co-Production Market section of the festival. Producers/directors will get the chance to pitch their project in search for for co-production partners, sales and financing. The Icelandic projects are as follows:

Five films will be screened at closed market screenings in the industry section, New Nordic Films. The five films are as follows; Alma by Kristín Jóhannesdóttir; Wolka by Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson; Quake by Tinna Hrafnsdóttir; Backyard Village by Marteinn Thórsson; and Fanga by Max Gold.
