Film producer Agnes Johansen dies at 66

Icelandic film producer Agnes Johansen has passed away at the age of 66. She died at the National University Hospital of Iceland in Reykjavík on Sunday, May 18. Her family announced her passing in a public statement.

Agnes was a prolific producer and contributed to the making of numerous Icelandic and international films and television projects over an illustrious career. She remained active in filmmaking until the end of her life.

In the 1980s, she worked in children's television programming. She hosted Stundin okkar on RÚV and was in charge of all children's programming on Stöð 2 for an extended period. In the mid-1990s, she joined Sagafilm, where she worked on various projects until she began her collaboration with Baltasar Kormákur in 2001 at the film production company Sögn. There, she was involved in the production of Baltasar's second feature film, The Sea (Hafið). At Sögn, she produced the films A Little Trip to Heaven (2005), Jar City (Mýrin, 2006), Reykjavík-Rotterdam (2008), White Night Wedding (Brúðguminn, 2009), and The Deep (Djúpið, 2012). She also produced the film Dís (2004), directed by Silja Hauksdóttir.

When RVK Studios was founded in 2012, Agnes became one of the company's key producers. Her projects there included the films Virgin Mountain (Fúsi, 2015) and Against the Ice (2022), as well as the television series Katla (2021). She also served as executive producer on The Oath (Eiðurinn, 2016) and all three seasons of Trapped (Ófærð, 2015–2021). Her final film project was Touch (Snerting, 2024).

Agnes is survived by two daughters and four grandchildren. Deepest condolences are extended to her family and loved ones.
