Gísli Snær Erlingsson appointed as director of London Film School

Film director Gísli Snær Erlingsson has been appointed director of the London Film School. Erlingsson had been interim director at the school since last fall. He first joined the school in 2016 as Head of Studies.

Commenting to Deadline on his appointment, Erlingsson said: “I am tremendously honoured to be appointed and delighted to lead the superb team of the UK’s first film school. LFS benefits from a diverse filmmaking community with an international reputation. The School has always been proud of its students and wants to play a more significant part in the UK with support from industry and government. I look forward to building on this as LFS develops, working with staff and students to achieve further success regionally, nationally and internationally.”

Gísli Snær Erlingsson‘s film credits as director include Behind Schedule, Benjamin Dove and Ikingut.  Erlingsson is a graduate of French film school La Fémis in Paris and is a member of the European Film Academy, the Royal Television Society, the Directors Guild of Iceland and the Federation of European Film Directors.

London Film School has had many Icelandic alumni throughout the years, including writer/director Reynir Oddsson, director of photography Sigurdur Sverrir Pálsson, writer/director Gudný Halldórsdóttir, writer/director Einar Thór Gunnlaugsson, director of photography Karl Óskarsson and writer Hrafnkell Stefánsson.
