Icelandic composer Hildur Gudnadóttir's strong international presence

Joker, directed by Todd Phillips, was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 76th Venice International Film Festival. The music in the film has been highly praised, which is by the Icelandic composer Hildur Gudnadóttir.

Gudnadóttir started creating the music just after reading the script which according to Joaquin Phoenix, the lead actor, helped set the tone and became a key motivator during the process of evolving the character in Joker

Recently, Gudnadóttir received her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series for the critically-acclaimed HBO series Chernobyl. She took inspiration from a real power plant for her score to the series and visited the nuclear power plant in Lithuania, where the programme was filmed, and made live recordings of its atmospheric sounds.

Gudnadóttir is also know for her score in the films Sicario: Day of the Soldat from 2018 and Tom of Finland from 2017. She is also among the 2019 invitees to become a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for her contribution to theatrical motion pictures.
