Iceland at Nordisk Panorama
Nordisk Panorama takes place in Malmö, Sweden, from September 19-24. Seven documentaries and shorts by Icelandic filmmakers will be screened in competition at the festival this year, in addition to five projects being presented at the Nordisk Panorama Forum and Nordic Short Film Pitch. Icelandic producer Sigurjón Sighvatsson is nominated for the Nordic Documentary Producer Award.
Nordisk Panorama is the leading festival of its kind in the Nordic region and only showcases films by Nordic filmmakers.

Raised in the United States, twenty-two-year-old Mikel is abruptly deported to Albania. He struggles to find a new identity in an unfamiliar environment. His eleven-year-old American-born sister Angela has been left behind, an ocean away. She must decide to join her brother in Albania or stay in the US. While they are working out where they belong, the unexpected happens.

The Day Iceland Stood Still

On a morning in 1975, 90% of Icelandic women walked off their jobs and out of their homes, refusing to work, cook, or take care of the children. The country was brought to a standstill and Iceland suddenly became the “best place in the world to be a woman.” The story is subversive and funny. “We loved our male chauvinist pigs,” recalls one of the activists, “We just wanted to change them a little!”
