Icelandic filmmaker Katla Sólnes selected for Sundance Screenwriters Lab
Katla Sólnes, an emerging Icelandic writer-director, has been chosen as one of ten fellows for the 2025 Sundance Screenwriters Lab and Screenwriters Intensive programs with her project Eruption. The selection comes from a highly competitive pool of over 3,380 submissions.
Sólnes' project is set in the highlands of Iceland in 1972, where a geologist's wife finds her marriage tested when a wily American student arrives, stirring tensions as volatile as the volcanic landscape. The project has received funding from the Icelandic Film Centre.
Katla Sólnes is a recent MFA graduate from Columbia University, where she now serves as an adjunct assistant professor in screenwriting. She recently won Columbia's Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Screenwriting Competition with Eruption.
The Sundance Screenwriters Lab, scheduled for January 18-22 at the Sundance Mountain Resort in Utah, provides emerging artists with a space to develop their first and second features.
