Jóhann Jóhannsson nominated for a Grammy Award

The Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for the British drama The Theory of Everything. The film, which stars Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne and Oscar nominee Felicity Jones, tells the story of the eminent physicist Stephen Hawking. The Grammy Awards will take place on February 15, 2016.

This is yet another honor for Jóhannsson and his contribution to the film; earlier this year he won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score, received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Original Score and received a nomination for a BAFTA Film Award for Best Original Music.

Jóhannsson is up against Alexandre Desplat, for The Imitation Game; Hans Zimmer, for Interstellar; Antonio Sanchez, for Birdman and Justin Hurwitz , for Whiplash.

Björk and Of Monsters and Men have also received nominations at the Grammy Awards; Björk is nominated for Best Alternative Music Album for her album Vulnicura and Of Monsters and Men is nominated for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package for their album Beneath the Skin.

All nominations can be found at the official website of the Grammy Awards.

Jóhannsson previously scored the critically acclaimed crime drama Prisoners, which was directed by Denis Villeneuve, and is also the composer for Villeneuve's most recent film, Sicario, another critically acclaimed crime drama.

Jóhannsson is the composer for upcoming TV series Trapped, an Icelandic crime drama from creators Baltasar Kormákur and Sigurjón Kjartansson. Jóhannsson has also composed music for a number of Icelandic features, such as The Icelandic Dream, A Man Like Me, Dís and Thicker Than Water, as well as the short film Wrestling and the TV series Black Angels.

Jóhannsson recently made his directorial debut with his short documentary End of Summer, which was selected for CPH:DOX in Copenhagen in 2014. In addition to directing the film, Jóhannsson composed the score, wrote the screenplay, and shot, edited and mixed it.
