Jóhann Jóhannsson nominated for a Grammy Award

The Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for Arrival, directed by Denis Villeneuve. The film stars five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams. The Grammy Awards will take place on January 28, 2018.

This is the second time Jóhannsson receives a Grammy Award nomination in this category, receiving one in 2016 for The Theory of Everything.

Jóhannsson is up against Ramin Djawadi, for Game of Thrones Season 7; Hans Zimmer, for Dunkirk; Benjamin Wallfisch, Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer, for Hidden Figures and Justin Hurwitz, for La La Land.

All nominations can be found at the official website of the Grammy Awards.

Earlier this year, Jóhannsson received a nomination for a Golden Globe for Best Original Score and a nomination for a BAFTA Film Award for Best Original Music for Arrival.

Jóhannsson has previously scored the Oscar winning The Theory of Everything, for which he won a Golden Globe for Best Original Score, received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, received the previously mentioned Grammy Award nomination and received a nomination for a BAFTA Film Award for Best Original Music.

Jóhannsson has also previously scored two of Villeneuve‘s critically acclaimed crime dramas; Prisoners and Sicario. For Sicario, Jóhannsson received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Original Score and a nomination for a BAFTA Film Award for Best Original Music.

Jóhannsson was the composer for the hit TV series Trapped, an Icelandic crime drama from creators Baltasar Kormákur and Sigurjón Kjartansson. Jóhannsson has also composed music for a number of Icelandic features, such as The Icelandic Dream, A Man Like Me, Dís and Thicker Than Water, as well as the short film Wrestling and the TV series Black Angels.
