Many Icelandic films to be screened at the Göteborg Film Festival – SPARROWS and THE SHOW OF SHOWS in competition

A total of 8 Icelandic films will screen at the Göteborg International Film Festival, which will take place from January 29 through February 8. The films that will be screened are features Sparrows, Rams and In Front of Others, documentaries The Show of Shows, Yarn and Horizon, short film Rainbow Party and TV series Trapped.

Rúnar Rúnarsson‘s Sparrows will be in competition for the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film, the festival‘s top prize. The award includes a 1 million SEK prize, which is among the highest prize money in the world when it comes to film festivals. Sparrows will compete against 7 other nordic films for the award.

The Show of Shows: 100 Years of Vaudeville, Circuses and Carnivals will also be up for a Dragon Award in the documentary competition. The award includes a 100.000 SEK prize, which is among the highest prize money in the world when it comes to documentaries at film festivals. The Show of Shows will compete against 7 other nordic documentaries for the award.

Features Rams by Grímur Hákonarson and In Front of Others, directed by Óskar Jónasson, will screen as part of the Nordic Light program.

Yarn, directed by Una Lorenzen, and Horizon by Bergur Bernburg and Fridrik Thor Fridriksson will screen in the documentary section of the Nordic Light program.

Rainbow Party by Eva Sigurdardóttir will screen in the short film section of the Nordic Light program.

TV series Trapped from helmers Baltasar Kormákur and Sigurjón Kjartansson will screen in the TV drama section of the Nordic Light program.

Last year, both Sparrows and Rams were presented in the Works in progress section and Trapped was presented at the TV Drama Vision seminar.
