Northern Comfort, an English-language comedy by Icelandic filmmaker Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson (Under the Tree, 2017), has been sold to key territories following the film's debut at SXSW in March.

Deadline reports that Paris based sales company Charades has finalized a number of deals with international buyers: Rezo (France), September Films (Benelux), Kismet (Australia & NZ), Vertigo (Spain), I Wonder (Italy), Pris Audiovisual (Portugal), M2 (Poland), Cirko Films (Hungary), Aerofilms (Czech Republic, Hungary), Transilvania (Romania), Megacom (ex-Yugoslavia), Volga (CIS & Baltics), New Cinema (Israel), Falcon (Lebanon & Gulf), Avjet (Taiwan), and Pictureworks (India).

Previously, Scanbox had secured rights in Scandinavia, Sena in Iceland, Weltkino in Germany and Switzerland, with Netflix taking SVOD rights in the UK.

Charades will host market screenings of the film at the upcoming Cannes film festival.

Northern Comfort, a dark comedy starring Lydia Leonard, Timothy Spall, Sverrir Gudnason, Ella Rumpf, Simon Manyonda, and Rob Delaney, is Sigurdsson's English language debut. His last feature film, Under the Tree, premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2017 and went on to win a number of international awards.

Northern Comfort is a Netop Films production, co-produced with Good Chaos (UK) and One Two Films (Germany). Producer is Grímar Jonsson (Under The Tree), and co-producers are Sol Bondy (Holy Spider), Fred Burle (Holy Spider), and Mike Goodridge (Triangle of Sadness).

The film is funded by the Icelandic Film Centre, with additional financial backing from ZDF/Arte in collaboration with Arte, Icelandic national broadcaster RUV, Film4, Nordisk Film & TV Fund, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, and Creative Europe.
