ON THE SURFACE in competition at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival
The prestigious Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival takes place from January 28 - February 5 in France. The Icelandic animated short film, On the Surface by Fan Sissoko, is in International Competition at the festival.
On the Surface tells the story of Ada. She goes swimming in the Icelandic sea and reflects on raising a child in a country that feels nothing like home. As she enters the freezing water, she relives her traumatic pregnancy. Soon her swimming eases. Facing her fears is helping her heal.
The film is written and directed by Fan Sissoko and storyteller is Enid Mbabazi. The film had its premiere on August 1 at the arts festival Fringe of Colour Films.
The Icelandic Film Centre will present new Icelandic shorts as part of Scandinavian Films at the Short Film Market, which takes place from January 31 - February 4. Market screenings will take place on January 31 and February 1 at George Conchon Theatre. The three Icelandic shorts presented are Chef de Partie by Ágúst Þór Hafsteinsson, Drink My Life by Marzibil Sæmundardóttir and My Mom, the Crazy by Garpur I. Elísabetarson.
