Open call for 16th edition of Skjaldborg – Icelandic Documentary Film Festival

Skjaldborg - Festival of Icelandic Documentaries will be held in Patreksfjörður from May 26rd-29th 2023. 

The early bird deadline is March 8th 2023 and the regular deadline is March 30th 2023. For submissions please visit www.skjaldborg.is

It is possible to apply with films in post production state with a screener and a description of the state of the project and an estimated date of completion. 

Skjaldborg premiers Icelandic documentaries with the aim to support the development of the Icelandic documentary scene. The two categories are Documentary Premiere and Work in Progress.

The Icelandic documentaries premiering at the festival compete for the coveted audience award Einarinn and Ljóskastarinn, the grand jury award.

Eligible films for Skjaldborg 2023 are:

  • Icelandic documentaries which have not been screened publicly in Iceland and will not be screened before the completion of the Skjaldborg festival 2023
  • Icelandic Documentaries that count as Icelandic productions 

Note! The festival also considers documentary films made by foreign documentary filmmakers which touch on Icelandic subject matter but those films are not eligible for the competition.
