Open call for Skjaldborg – Icelandic Documentary Film Festival

Skjaldborg – Festival of Icelandic Documentaries will be held in Patreksfjörður from May 17th-20th 2024. The early bird deadline is March 23rd 2024 and the regular deadline is March 15th 2024. For submissions please visit www.skjaldborg.is

It is possible to apply with a screener to films in post production state and a description of the state of the project and an estimated date of completion prior to the festival dates.

Skjaldborg premiers Icelandic documentaries with the aim to support the development of the Icelandic documentary scene. The two categories are Documentary Premiere and Work in Progress.

The Icelandic documentaries premiering at the festival compete for the coveted audience award Einarinn and Ljoskastarinn, the grand jury award.

Eligible films for Skjaldborg 2024 are:

  • Icelandic documentaries which have not been screened publicly in Iceland and will not be screened before the completion of the Skjaldborg festival 2024
  • Icelandic Documentaries that count as Icelandic productions
  • Note! The festival also considers documentary films made by foreign documentary filmmakers which touch on Icelandic subject matter but those films are not eligible for the competition.
