RIFF - Reykjavík International Film Festival takes place from September 30 - October 10

The Reykjavík International Film Festival, RIFF, is now in its 18th year and is running from September 30 through October 10. The festival will screen 85 feature films from 61 countries. Furthermore it presents a variety of short programs and a special children and youth program. The festival‘s guests of honor are directors Mia Hansen-Løve and Joachim Trier, actress Trine Dyrholm and Debbie Harry of Blondie. Masterclasses and special events are held with them present.

The festival's opening film is The Worst Person in the World by Norwegian director Joachim Trier, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival this year. The festival concludes on the 10th of October with a screening of Margarete - Queen of the North, a historical epic that sees acclaimed Danish actress Trine Dyrholm portray the first-ever female Nordic head of state.

Numerous Icelandic features, documentaries and shorts will be screened at the festival with the programs Icelandic panorama, Icelandic shorts and Icelandic student shorts. Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson's last feature film, Wolka, opens the Icelandic Panorama section. Ásgeirsson, who passed away earlier this year after a brief illness, will be honored with a career retrospective at the festival with screenings of his films Thicker Than Water, Ploey - You Never Fly Alone and Undercurrent.
