Sara Gunnarsdóttir nominated for an Oscar
My Year of Dicks, by Icelandic director Sara Gunnarsdóttir and American screenwriter Pamela Ribon, is nominated for the 95th Academy Awards as Best Animated Short Film.
This is the first time a female director from Iceland is nominated for the Oscars. Gunnarsdóttir is also the second Icelandic director to earn a nomination in the category of Best Animated Short Films, Gísli Darri Ólafsson's short, Yes-People, was nominated in 2021.
My Year of Dicks had its world premiere at South by Southwest Film Festival 2022, where it received a special jury recognition. The short took home the Cristal prize at the Annecy Animation Festival in France, and is in competition at Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, which begins January 27.
The short is a provocative work of animation, based on Ribon's memoir, Notes to Boys (and other Things I Shouldn't Share in Public).
