SEALSKIN by Ugla Hauksdóttir wins two international awards

Ugla Hauksdóttir's short film Sealskin has recently won two international awards. The film won Best International Fiction at Leiria Film Fest (May 27 - 30) in Portugal and it won Best Original Soundtrack at Dieciminuti Film Festival (August 3 - 7) in Italy.

In the jury's reasoning for Best International Fiction at Leiria Film Fest it says: "Sealskin" tells, through silences, a story too sad and intimate to be revealed in words. It touches us in our most intimate being and makes us want to enter the screen, that sea and that embrace. Gorgeous.

The film had its world premiere at International Film Festival of Huesca in 2020 and has since travelled around the world at festivals, including Torino Film Festival, Diorama International Film Festival, and Nordic Film Days in Lübeck.

Sealskin tells the story of the five-year-old Sol and her father who live in an isolated house by the sea. When Sol senses that her father is burdened by sorrow, she finds solace in an old Icelandic folk tale.

The film is written and directed by Ugla Hauksdóttir and produced by Anton Máni Svansson for Join Motion Pictures. Music is by Herdís Stefánsdóttir and the film stars Björn Thors, Bríet Sóley Valgeirsdóttir and Sigrídur Soffía Níelsdóttir.
