Six Icelandic films in competition in Nordisk Panorama

Six Icelandic documentaries and short films are in competition in the 33rd edition of Nordisk Panorama, which takes place in Malmö, Sweden, September 22-27.

Nordisk Panorama is a Nordic documentary and short film festival. The Nordisk Panorama Market and Nordisk Panorama Forum are held annually at the same time, along with seminars, lectures and many other events.

The full programme of the festival will be released 1 September.

The Following Icelandic shorts and docs are in the festival's competition this year.

Best Nordic Documentary

Band by Álfrún Örnólfsdóttir

BAND is a comedy of failures, seen through the eyes of three women of “The Post Performance Blues Band" who give themselves only one year to finally become popstars or quit forever. Each on the brink of 40, they find themselves again coming of age, reckoning with their artistic dreams & the meaning of friendship as they juggle the pressures of motherhood. Playing creatively with the documentary form, the film makes meaning out of life's messiness and finds resilience in rejection. BAND tells a big little story of triumphant sisterhood.

Best Nordic Short Film

Surprise by Kolfinna Nikulásdóttir

On Hildur's birthday, Ragnar blindfolds her to take her on a surprise trip. To ease her boyfriend she decides to endure the spooky gesture. A lover's fight in an active thermal area that simulates hell, gives her a new sight on the relationship.

New Nordic Voice

Hex by Katrín Helga Andrésdóttir

An avant-garde absurd short film saturated with horror. A child witnesses her home being invaded by bimbo-looking witches through the lense of a DV camera. She is scared but her mother watches passively as things get out of hand.

Young Nordic Award

On the Surface by Fanny Sissoko

Ada goes swimming in the Icelandic sea and reflects on raising a child in a country that feels nothing like home. As she enters the freezing water, she relives her traumatic pregnancy. Soon her swimming eases. Facing her fears is helping her heal.
