THE OATH selected for Toronto International Film Festival

The Oath, Baltasar Kormákur‘s new feature, will have its world premiere in the Special Presentations section at the Toronto International Film Festival. The festival will occur this year from September 8 through 18.

In The Oath, Finnur is a successful heart surgeon and father of two. His family's life begins to unravel when his daughter, Anna, gets mixed up with a manipulative, drug-dealing boyfriend. As the boyfriend's grip tightens around Anna and the entire family, Finnur is forced to take drastic measures.

The Oath is directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Jar City, The Deep, Everest) and written by Ólafur Egill Egilsson (Trapped) and Kormákur. It was produced by Magnús Vidar Sigurdsson and Kormákur for RVK Studios. It stars Baltasar Kormákur (101 Reykjavík, Reykjavík Rotterdam), Hera Hilmar (Life in a Fishbowl, Da Vinci‘s Demons) and Gísli Örn Gardarsson (Beowulf & Grendel, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time). The film was shot by Óttar Gudnason (A Little Trip to Heaven, Inhale), edited by Sigvaldi J. Kárason (Mamma Gógó, Trapped), and the score was composed by Hildur Gudnadóttir (A Hijacking, Trapped). International sales will be handled by XYZ Films.

Two of Kormákur‘s earlier Icelandic works, TV series Trapped and The Deep, also had their world premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival. Trapped premiered the first two episodes of the series in the festival‘s Primetime section in 2015 and The Deep, much like The Oath, premiered in the Special Presentations section in 2012. A further five of Kormákur's directorial works have screened at the festival; White Night Wedding, Jar City, A Little Trip to Heaven, The Sea and 101 Reykjavík (winner of the Discovery Award in 2001).
