Three Icelandic films at Karlovy Vary – Yrsa Roca Fannberg on the Proxima Jury

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, in the Czech Republic, begins its 56th run on July 1.

Three Icelandic films are in the programme this year: Beautiful Beings, by Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson, and Godland, by Hlynur Pálmason, in addition to Pálmason's short film Nest.

Yrsa Roca Fannberg, Icelandic documentarian, is among jury members in the festival's second competition, Proxima.

The Proxima competition replaces the East of the West competitive section, which was established in the 90s to aid filmmakers from the former Eastern Bloc. The Proxima Competition offers space to filmmakers from all over the world, with no geographical limitations unlike East of the West, both documentaries and features.

Yrsa Roca Fannberg's documentary, The last Autumn, was screened at the festival in 2019.
