Gísli Snær Erlingsson new director of Icelandic Film Centre

Lilja Dögg Alfredsdóttir, Minister of Culture and Business Affairs, has appointed Gísli Snær Erlingsson as the director of the Icelandic Film Centre.

Gísli Snær has worked in directing for several years and directed films such as Ikíngut (2000) and Benjamín dúfa (Benjamin, the Dove, 1995). He was appointed as the director and CEO of the London Film School in 2016 and left the position last year.

The position of director of the Icelandic Film Centre was advertised in late November and the application deadline expired on December 12th. Fifteen applicants applied for the position, and it was assessed by a three-member selection committee that Gísli was the most suitable candidate for the position. Following the minister's interviews with the candidates, it was concluded that Gísli Snær was the most qualified candidate.

The appointment is for a term of five years. Gísli will assume the position of director of the Icelandic Film Centre in April 2023. Sigurrós Hilmarsdóttir, head of production at the centre, has been appointed as acting director in the interim.
