Icelandic Documentary MANNVIRKI in IFFR Competition

Gústav Geir Bollason's documentary, Mannvirki , has been selected for the Tiger competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).

IFFR's flagship Tiger Competition is the festival's platform for emerging film talent and features a selection of 16 titles for its 52nd edition.

An abandoned building on Iceland's northern coast has fallen subject to the natural forces of erosion and entropy. As the ruins and the landscape slowly yield to the wind and sea, a loose assemblage of flora, fauna, humans, and revenants share the task of giving the structure new purpose. At the border of fiction and documentary, Mannvirki contemplates this multi-layered world of uncertainty and hope.

The IFFR jury will grant three prizes: the Tiger Award, worth €40,000, and two Special Jury Awards, worth €10,000 each. The Tiger Jury consists of Sabrina Baracetti, Lav Diaz, Anisia Uzeyman, Christine Vachon and Alonso Díaz de la Vega.

IFFR takes place January 25–February 5.
